Happy Archives Month!
The Friends of Sandwich Town Archives (FOSTA) Board of Directors invites you to our Annual Meeting with guest speaker: Julia Blakely, who will present "The Cultural Landscapes of Dodge Macknight's Cape"
The Cultural Landscapes of Dodge Macknight's Cape: Cultural landscapes, combined works of nature and humans, are our identity and heritage. Drawing upon the extensive and unique materials in the Sandwich Town Archives to create a more accurate and complete picture of Dodge Macknight (1860-1950), this talk will focus on the narrative of the artist’s life and times here on the Cape. A sense of place was integral to his art. Macknight’s home, 'The Hedges' and its remarkable gardens in East Sandwich, will be portrayed as an important part of the story.

Julia Blakely has undergraduate and master's degrees in art history from George Washington University, in addition to a master's of science from Columbia University, specializing in art librarianship and rare books. Julia has been involved in the University of Virginia's Rare Book School for years. After a long career in museum and research institutions in Washington, D.C., and working with private collectors, she settled in East Sandwich and became involved in volunteer work for the Cultural Council, the Historical Commission, and the Nye Museum.
Julia is curating an exhibition for the Sandwich Glass Museum and Historical Society, entitled "Dodge Macknight: A Life in Color." The show will run from November 14th until March 31, 2026.
Additionally, FOSTA will review actions taken in 2025 to support the Sandwich Town Archives, give a financial update, and an overview of Board positions and election procedure for 2026.
The meeting will begin promptly, so we encourage you to arrive a few minutes early. Light refreshments will be served.
We look forward to seeing you there!
