ABOUT THE EVENT: Longtime New England musician/author Matt York will perform the songs of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings and tell stories of their careers. The four songwriting legends joined forces in the 1980's to form the country supergroup The Highwaymen. However, prior to that, they each established themselves as stars and their careers intersected many times since the 1960's.
You will be entertained and educated about all things '70's Country music by this dynamic and enthusiastic performer. York will have copies of his latest book available for purchase during the event and you will have an opportunity to ask him questions about his travels and experiences with these Country music legends!
Light "Coffeehouse-style" snacks and beverages will be served courtesy of the Friends of the Sandwich Public Library and the Greek Caffeina Café. Registration required.
ABOUT THE PERFORMER: Recently nominated for the 2022 Boston Music Award for "Best Country Artist", Matt York lives on the South Shore of MA and has traveled extensively through the years performing his songs also doing The Highwaymen Songs & Stories; the lives and performances of Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson, Wayland Jennings & Kris Kristofferson. “It's a lot of stories and anecdotes I've picked up along the way. Many of the stories I learned from performing concerts and speaking with people about their interactions with these men. One of the other things I try to do, is connect people with some of the more modern country music.” Says York.
York was recently nominated for the Boston Music Award for Best Country Artist and his album Gently Used was just named one of the Patriot Ledger's best albums of 2022.
The Boston Globe named Matt York's new album "Bruisable Heart" one of their top albums in 2019. Matt grew up in Foxboro, Massachusetts and began playing the clubs of Boston as a teenager. Since then, he's played on stages throughout the United States and Canada.
The Boston Herald says of Matt York’s album Boston, Texas ”The singer-songwriter uses basic building blocks — Buddy Holly’s chords, Hank Williams’ swagger, Steve Earle’s boozy wisdom, Paul Westerberg’s straight-up-drunk wisdom — to construct an album of beauty, optimism and heartbreak”.
