Come hear daring and exciting accounts from a U.S. Coast Guard officer with Air Station Cape Cod!
Lieutenant Commander, Shane Faux, will share Coast Guard search and rescue moments, as well as important safety tips and guidance for water crafts navigating Cape Cod waters. He will also provide information on the airplanes and helicopters used by USCG ASCC, including MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters and HC-144A Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircrafts.
You will not want to miss this rare opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of those who protect and serve our shorelines! This event is geared towards adults, but open to anyone age 14+.
ASCC is the only Coast Guard Aviation facility in the northeast. As such, ASCC is responsible for the waters from New Jersey to the Canadian border. Centrally located at Joint Base Cape Cod, ASCC maintains the ability to launch a helicopter and/or fixed-wing aircraft within 30 minutes of a call, 365 days-a-year, 24 hours-a-day, and in nearly all weather conditions. ABOUT THE PRESENTOR: LCDR Shane Faux, Asst Eng Officer, knew he wanted to serve his country following the events of 9/11. After completing his Bachelor's in Science at Florida State University and continuing on to complete his MBA at the University of Florida, Mr. Faux entered into the rigorous training of the United States Army and later commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Calvary Division. Mr. Faux deployed to Iraq to lead his first tank platoon during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007. Later, during his second deployment in 2009, Mr. Faux was a Tank Company Executive Officer and led a specialty Scout Platoon that supported the greater mission and developed critical relationships in his area of operation.
In 2010, Mr. Faux received the opportunity to join the U.S. Coast Guard and began a career in response. Later, a respected leader recommended Mr. Faux pursue a career in aviation, flying the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter. After selecting for the Aeronautical Engineering program and successfully completing the syllabus, Mr. Faux transitioned to the HC-144 Ocean Sentry. Mr. Faux has been recognized for his search and rescue efforts in Houston during Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and drug interdiction missions during his tour at Air Station Corpus Christi.
Later, while fulfilling the position of platform engineer in Corpus Christi, TX, Mr. Faux led a mission to interdict more than $275 million worth of drugs while on mission. Mr. Faux is passionate about investing in the next generation of service members through 1:1 and group mentoring opportunities. Mr. Faux currently assists with leading a 135 member department and is responsible for resourcing off shore search and rescue operations between New Jersey and Canada.
While not flying, Mr. Faux enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 children. He is a faithful member of his church and seeks ways to serve the community
