ABOUT THE EVENT: Local author, Christie Palmer Lowrance will present a talk on “Nature’s Ambassador: The Life and Legacy of Sandwich’s Native Son, Thornton W. Burgess.” In this lecture we will learn more about the life of Thornton W. Burgess and his impact and lasting legacy in our town.

**Ms. Lowrance will be signing copies of her book, and will have copies available for purchase after the event. PLEASE NOTE: To purchase the book, only CASH or PERSONAL CHECKS will be accepted. We will NOT have the ability to take credit card payments. Thank you. ** 

SPECIAL NOTE:  A Thornton Burgess Commemorative Quilt, made by Master Quilters Liz Henry and Shirley Ladetto, both from Bourne, will be revealed during this event.  The Quilt, which was created using historic 1930s Ruby McKim patterns, will be on display in the Library Lobby throughout the year.  The public will have an opportunity to purchase tickets to be entered in a special drawing for the quilt.  The winner will be announced later in the year.  You will not want to miss seeing this incredible work of art! 

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: For many years, Christie Palmer Lowrance has passionately pursued her career as a writer/editor, journalist, biographer, and writing instructor. She has written extensively about Cape Cod's historical, artistic, literary, and commercial life, and taught writing at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Cape Cod Community College.

Ms. Lowrance is the author of Nature’s Ambassador: The Legacy of Thornton W. Burgess. The 320-page beautifully illustrated biography published by Schiffer Publishing lavishly details Burgess’ Sandwich childhood and his work as a respected naturalist, wildlife advocate, children’s author, and pioneer in environmental education and radio programming.

​She has a B.A. from Hobart & William Smith Colleges and an M.A. from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Her children’s book The Last Heath Hen, illustrated by artist Mike Berndt, will be published early this summer. At present she is working on a biography on Dr. George F.
